CONTEST: Nina Pierce ~ The Interview
Nina Pierce
Nina grew up in a house of readers. So falling in love with books was only natural. In her early teens she discovered love stories. Her favorite all time book The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough, was her introduction to romance and lust.
Since then, she’s branched out to reading all kinds of genres from science fiction to mystery, medical thrillers to historicals. But romance has remained her favorite genre. Now, reading about lovers isn’t enough for her. The characters of her imagination beg to have their stories told.
In 2005 she finally put fingers to keyboard… and a new career was launched.
A native of Maine, she resides in what she affectionately calls “the great white North” in potato country with her high school sweetheart and true love of twenty-five years, her three grown children and a menagerie of pets.

Heart’s Afire – including Shadows of Fire coming May 2009 from Liquid Silver Books
Shadows of Fire
Sometimes the answer you seek is right in front of you …
ALEXANDRA FLANAGAN didn’t ask to be forced from her human existence as a chemistry student at the South Kenton University in the northern mountains of California into the ungodly world of vampires. But thirty years ago, after nearly dying from a vicious vampire attack, that’s exactly what happened. Saved by the blood of an ancient vampire, she unhappily walks among immortals–facing a hollow existence she never chose.
REESE COLTON has been a vampire for centuries. A man of honor, he is part of an elite military operation known as RISEN that seeks out and eliminates rogue vampires who choose to break the unwritten codes of the immortals and not live complacently among the human population. Under cover as a firefighter at the South Kenton fire department, he and his team have been called in to investigate the unusual number of fires that have ended the lives of several humans–and vampires.
When chemistry ignites passion, Reese and Alex find themselves embroiled in an affair that catches them both unaware. With the number of fires escalating and Alex’s behavior increasingly suspect, Reese isn’t sure whether to follow his heart or the clues. Will Reese find the answers to Alex’s secrets in the Shadows of Fire?

Q: If you had to go live on an island for six months, which three things would you HAVE to take with you?
A: I only get three things? It’s not like I can bring one BIG box with a whole bunch of things? No? I know it’s sort of like wishing for more wishes. But okay, let’s see …
1. My man of course. With all that time on my hands without the world (read that as kids) interrupting we could surely find fun ways to pass the time. Oh, yeah, that sounds good!
2. A word processor. No, not a computer— just a word processor. I can’t hand write my stories and keep up with everything swirling in my head. I need to type. But it can NOT be hooked up to the Internet. I can only imagine all the writing I’d get done if I stopped surfing for new blogs. *wink*
3. A backgammon board. I mean … not all games are played in the bedroom!
Q: If you were a world ruler and you were given a choice of 3 laws to enact, what would they be?
A:
1) No fighting or arguing.
2) No child goes hungry or unloved.
3) I have the last say on everything … any questions, see #1
Q: Where is the last place on Earth you’d want to live and why?
A: I wouldn’t want to live on either of the poles. Do you know how cold it is there? All the time! I hate the cold. Brrrrr! Warm is so nice. Happy things happen when things are hawt!
Q: You’re the heroine of your book, why do you fall in love with the hero?
A: Because not only his gorgeous with those wash-board abs and bulging biceps, he’s kind and thoughtful. He cooks for me and feeds me strawberries with chocolate. And those hands … oh, those hands not only give the best backrubs, they know all my secret erogenous zones. And when he smiles, it brightens his whole face and sparks in those eyes. Yeah, those deep blue eyes that make my knees go weak when they’re turned to me with that look that says “I want you now.”
Q: You are told you have to meet one paranormal creature, no safeguards, what do you choose? What do you bring with you?
A: I’d love to meet a vampire. There is something so sexy about those creatures of the night with all their power and secrets. If I can’t have any safeguards then I’d just bring a tape recorder. I’d have all kinds of questions to ask and since I’d be mesmerized by his aura, I wouldn’t remember everything.
Q: Who were you in a past life?
A: I’m sure I was an Indian on the plains of western US. The whole idea of growing up in a community that depends on every person and falling in love with the chief’s son. Sleeping in animal skins. Yeah, I’m sure I did that in one of my past lives.

Thanks for stopping by the blog, Nina!
Hi

Excellent interview. I hadn’t heard of Nina Pierce before but now I will read her book.
My favorite kind of paranormal superhero is the vampire. I fell in love with Lestat, who ruined me for all other paranormal types.
Still like the weres, witches, fae, etc. though.

What is your favorite kind of paranormal hero? He isn’t perfect, he has some sort of flaw. Even with all the magic in the world, the sexiest thing in a hero is vulnerablity.
My favorite kind of paranormal heroes are shifters. They are very sexual wild and primal.
Maryellen – oh, isn’t that true. Just a hint of vulnerability.
Delitelex – shifters … oh, I love them. It’s the animal in them that makes me fall in love!
What is your favorite kind of paranormal hero?
No question here…Vampire!! I have loved them since a was very young. A bit of brooding is OK but I like them better if they have a good sense of humor too (think Mick St. John).
Can I have two favorite paranormal heroes? I’d have to say it is a tie between the vampires and the shifters. I love the vampires because they are mysterious and dangerous and the shifters because I love Alpha males. Yum!
I love shifters especially big cats I love the whole animal side and insticts
Rob – I missed you up there! Sorry about that. Thanks for stopping by. Glad you liked the sound of the books.
Connie – Oh, Mick! I just fell in love with that vampire!
Annalisa – You have picked the best of both. *sigh*
Beth – I’m finishing up the first in a shifter cat series. I totally fell in love with those characters.
My fav paranormal hero is hands down the Vampire! Been fascinated w/ them since seeing my very first Lagosi(sorry if I butchered the spelling! hehe) Dracula movie and reading my very first vampire story. Something so sexy, mysterious, dangerous and yet compelling about them. Mind you I’m not talking about the mindless blood sucking fiends often portrayed in today’s movies but the romantic, tough as nails, take no shit yet die for his lady love vamps! Such as Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series and Feehan’s Carpathian series! So uhh long story short Vamps for me all the way!
~Sha~
Connie I’m with you as far as Mick St. John goes! Yummy!! Still pissed that they cancelled that show. Can’t leave anything good on tv anymore!
~Sha~
Yum A vampire fire fighter(woo!Woo!)
I’m a sucker for dragon shifters. Dragon wings are gorgeous.
Hugs, Danette
Hmm… I agree with some of the other comments. Vulnerability is key. But I looooove a good lycanthrope. I’ve had a crush on Vane from the Dark Hunter series for years now
. Bride is a lucky girl LOL.
I loved the interview! Good luck with the book!
~Julie
ShaLyn – I haven’t gone back to the original movies, but with my new interest in the vampire culture, I’m thinking I’d like to do a little research.
Danette – A dragon shifter? Oh, the power. Hmmm … that could be interesting.
Julie – thanks for visiting.
Hi Nina and Michelle! I so like this combo of a vamp and too one of elite military group! Love this already! Is it going to be a series with more books Nina?
LOL on Backgammon! I haven’t played that in so long I think I forgot how but love it. I got to visit my friend soon and play again! Loved the interview!
Its hard because I so much love a variety of paranormal themes to pick the hero in it! I think of course the alpha but silent type of hero with a dark past that brings out so much of his strengths which one would be his strong love and says so much without words!
My favorite paranormal character is hands down the vampire. Been fascinated with them since I was a teenager and that’s a lot of years ago. LOL I’m a big LKH fan and I have the complete set of Buffy. Spike is my dream man. (hence the email address. LOL)
Caffey – This hero is definitely interesting with his skill set. I totally fell in love with this vamp.
Glenna – I think the vamp seems to be the women’s favorite. Something about a dark, mysterious, strong man.
I like vamps and weres. Both books sound good!
And the winner is: ShaLyn
