Q & A with the Author
What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
People always act like getting older is something to resist. I love my forties. Many of the insecurities of my twenties have fallen away.
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
Growing older is a part of life and we want to celebrate and demystify some of those parts through fiction. Women in midlife face our own set of issues and challenges—empty nests, widows, divorce, menopause, health, etc.–and these issues deserve to be addressed and embraced in literature. I wanted to write about women my age having adventures, finding magic and friendships, while entering that next natural chapter in life. Clearly readers wanted it too because they cannot get enough of this genre. The support has been overwhelmingly positive.
Tell us a bit about your story.
Tamara is a character I’ve been wanting to write for a long time. She’s the only “normal” unmagical one in her family, and she proves you don’t have to have superpowers to save the day.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
Group projects are always a lot of fun. It’s been great getting to know and work with such a wonderful group of people.
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
A Streak of Lightning, Book 10 in the Warlocks MacGregor Series, July 2022
This is one of my most popular series featuring a family of mischievous Scottish warlocks causing trouble and pulling pranks in modern-day Wisconsin.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
These books are a positive message for midlife. Women friendships matter. Women matter. Our thoughts and feelings matter. And the fact that it’s done in cool paranormal settings and adventures makes it all the more fun.
Do you have a writing routine?
I write all the time, everywhere—passenger seat of the car, airports, hotels, doctor offices. Deadlines don’t care what the rest of the schedule looks like. This has been my full time job for nearly two decades.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
I hope they forget time. There’s nothing better than being lost in another world.
How long have you been writing?
My first book published in early 2004.
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
If you’re 40+, tell your truth. There is no ‘one’ midlife experience. If you’re not yet of that age, talk to women who are and listen to their experiences, their joys and pains. I love to listen and learn from the women who have gone before me.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
I do plan on writing more books in this world. Currently, I have another Paranormal Women’s Fiction series, Order of Magic. These women kick major ass.
