Q & A with the Author
What’s a misconception about midlife that you’d like to clear up?
Your whole life doesn’t fall apart after forty. It gets better!
What was your favorite part of writing Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
I love creating a story about a woman in my age bracket who discovers just how powerful she is, with or without magic.
Tell us a bit about your story.
As if turning forty-four and receiving your powerful familial magic wasn’t enough, now Zara Greystone has to navigate the mayhem of dating for the first time in over twenty years. When she tries out paranormal dating apps, she finds out that online trolls and ghosting take on whole new meanings. Find out if she survives in Spell of a Time.
Tell us about your experience writing a book for the Aged to Perfection Antho.
It’s an amazing experience to be invited to include a story with such fabulous authors. I wanted my story to be fun and cheeky to fit in.
Tell us about one of your upcoming titles.
Bombspell: Book 2 and Spell on Heels: Book 3 in the Charming Midlife series will be releasing in spring 2022.
Why was this story important for you to tell?
I enjoy exploring Zara’s trepidation and fears in finding out who she really is. She feels like she should have it all figured out in her forties, but learns that it’s okay to choose the life she wants at any age.
Do you have a writing routine?
I get up every morning and meet with other authors on a regular Clubhouse room to prep myself for working. After the room finishes, I do author writing sprints for several hours.
If you could live the life of one single character in your story, who would it be and why?
As much as I would say my main character Zara, I actually would love to be Valerie, the bakery owner and only sole human friend out of the girlfriend group. She is a foil to Zara in that she doesn’t get to have magic but has a son who is a bear shifter and is surrounded by supernatural beings. And yet, she’s content to be a support to everyone else and live her life as it is rather than wishing it was something else.
Do you have a personal connection with any of the characters in your story? Does one resonate with you more than the others?
I do connect to Zara’s desire to be better and to have things figured out. Although I’m not quite as lost as she is nor am starting my life over, I do spend a lot of time trying to figure out what I want the next twenty years of my life to be.
What is something you hope the readers take away from your story?
I hope readers have fun watching Zara attempt to date in her forties but also to discover what she really wants in her life. That it’s okay to try new things but also decide what does and doesn’t work for her. I absolutely love being in my forties, and I’m trying to get Zara there by end of the series!
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been a full-time writer for four years after years of writing in all different genres. But now I’ve found what I love to write and absolutely enjoy my job!
What words of advice would you give to new writers who are just starting in the genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction?
As an author who was used to writing the ingenue twenty-something main character who’s trying to figure things out, I find it very interesting to take the same type of story journey but exploring how different that path can be for a character in her forties. Life definitely changes in that age bracket, but it’s so important for me that it’s not negative changes. It’s how we navigate those differences using our previous life experiences. And that makes the stories for PWF different and enjoyable for me.
Do you have other books out or planned that are related to your anthology story? If so, which ones?
My story comes as part of the A Charmed Midlife series. Book 1 – Spell Shocked, Book 2 – Bombspell, Book 3 – Spell on Heels
